The Flame of Liberty Memorial by the Seine in Paris Situated by the Seine River in Paris, near the Pont de l’Alma tunnel, the Flame of Liberty monument —a replica of the torch from the American Statue of Liberty— serves as a memorial for Princess Diana. Since the day of her death, this monument has been used by the people of Paris as a place of remembrance for the late princess.
Since Princess Diana’s death in 1997, locals have continued to place flowers and tribute notes around this memorial. Although other memorials have been erected in her honor, this particular site has become especially significant to those who loved her, primarily because she died at this location.
The Flame of Liberty, constructed from gold-plated copper, was gifted by the United States to Paris in 1982 as a gesture of gratitude for the support provided during the installation of the Statue of Liberty in New York.
