Hamas Organization Confirms Assassination of Its Political Leader

The Hamas organization has confirmed that the head of its political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, was assassinated today (31) in Tehran, Iran’s capital. He had arrived in Tehran to participate in the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s new president.

According to a statement from Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh met with Iranian President Masoud Pesehkin and Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei yesterday (30). After attending the presidential inauguration and returning home, he was shot. The Hamas leader and his bodyguard were killed in the attack.

Hamas stated that this assassination was carried out by Israel. However, the Israeli military has not made any statements regarding the incident so far.

Meanwhile, Iran emphasized that it is investigating the assassination and will reveal those responsible for the act.

During a regular media briefing held today (31), Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian expressed his thoughts on the matter. He stated that China, which is paying close attention to the assassination, strongly condemns it. He also mentioned that China is concerned about the further escalation of regional tensions due to this incident.
