Christopher Nolan Announces ‘The Odyssey’ Adaptation with Star-Studded Cast

Acclaimed director Christopher Nolan is set to bring Homer’s ancient Greek epic, The Odyssey, to the big screen. Universal Pictures announced that the film, described as a “mythic action epic,” will be shot worldwide using new IMAX film technology and is scheduled for release on July 17, 2026.

The ensemble cast includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron.

The Odyssey narrates the perilous journey of Odysseus as he strives to return home after the Trojan War, encountering various mythical creatures and divine challenges. Nolan’s adaptation aims to bring this foundational saga to IMAX screens for the first time, promising a grand cinematic experience.

This project follows Nolan’s critically acclaimed biopic Oppenheimer, which won seven Oscars, including Best Picture, and grossed nearly $1 billion globally.

Production for The Odyssey is expected to commence early next year, with the film slated for a summer 2026 release.
